Name that tree

I saw this tree blooming on March 15 and can’t manage to identify it. If you know what it is, please fill me in!

Update: Thanks to Karen and Carol for identifying the tree for me. It’s a red maple.

Wintery Winterness

When will it end? Actually, it’s supposed to warm up this weekend. I took these photos before this week’s snowy days.

This is where the water runs into the pond – when it’s not frozen.

Our driveway after Gary plowed it. That’s ice leftover from the snowpocalypse.

The lime tree is enjoying the inside weather enough to bloom, even while it snows outside.

My, it’s froggy out there

The night sounds are so beautiful this time of year. Every night, the frogs serenade us from just before dark to around 3 am.  Last night I decided to see if I could capture their song. I took the little Cannon camera down to the dam and took a video of the moon. The moon was the only thing that would show up and I was really just down there for the audio. There’s nothing to see here, but the sound gives a hint of what it’s like on spring and summer nights out on our screened porch.

Gooseberry trail

Check out the trail that Gary made. It runs from the north side of the house to about halfway to the north property line. And, yes, there’s a gooseberry patch right next to the trail.

Water, water everywhere

Today I took a couple of short videos of all the water falling around the property. We’ve had a lot of  rain. This one is the little creek on the west side of the property. It’s about 100 yards from the house.

I’ll upload the  other videos later.

I took Hafiz’s advice

To Build a Swing

You carry
All the ingredients
To turn your life into a nightmare-
Don’t mix them!

You have all the genius
To build a swing in your backyard
For God.

That sounds
Like a hell of a lot more fun.
Let’s start laughing, drawing blueprints,
Gathering our talented friends.

I will help you
With my divine lyre and drum.

Will sing a thousand words
You can take into your hands,
Like golden saws,
Sliver hammers,

Polished teakwood,
Strong silk rope.

You carry all the ingredients
To turn our existence into joy,

Mix them, mix

No, I didn’t build a swing, but here are some of the ingredients of joy that I found around the property this week.

The daisies are blooming everywhere. Please don't eat them.

Horsemint is scattered throughout the property.

Wild Hyacinth is growing near the gate. It smells wonderful.

The north edge of the pond is teeming with these tadpoles. No wonder there's a symphony every night.
